Objectives : This study was conducted to identify the effects of the Dao Yin Qigong Exercise on shoulder pain among women.
Methods : The study was performed with one group in a pre-test/post-test design. The subjects were 25 women with shoulder pain selected by convenience sampling in Busan. The data was collected by using questionnaires and measured values from June, 2004, to August, 2004.
The Dao Yin Qigong Exercise program consists of 50-minute sessions three times a week over 8 weeks. During absence or on non-exercise days, subjects watched videos.
All of the subjects were examined on the grade of discomfort and pain in daily activity, Visual Analogue Scale, and flexibility of shoulder.
Prior and post surveys were measured before and after the experiment.
SPSS/Win 10.0 was used for data analysis, and the general features were demonstrated by frequency number and percentage. The effects of the Dao Yin Qigong Exercise program were analyzed by paired t-test.
Results : The score in the Visual Analogue Scale(p£¼0.001), and the grade of discomfort in daily activity(p£¼0.001) were significantly decreased after the Dao Yin Qigong Exercise program. The values for shoulder flexibility (left : p£¼0.001, right : p£¼0.001) significantly increased after the exercise program.
Conclusions : The Dao Yin Qigong Exercise program is an effective health promotion program for shoulder pain among women.
